The Dentists

Mr. Richard J. Leworthy

B.D.S. (London) 1977, D.G.D.P. (U.K.), D.P.D.S. (Bristol), L.F. Hom (Dentistry)

On qualifying Richard joined the Royal Navy and served for five years. The highlight was spending seven months at sea as the fleet dental surgeon on deployment to the Far East. On leaving he became an associate in Street and Somerton.

Richard purchased the Wells Practice in April 1985. He was appointed Regional Dental Adviser for BUPA DENTAL COVER in May 1994 and accredited in January 1995. He was then appointed as a Clinical Assessor for BUPA DENTAL COVER in February 1995. He is married to Sue our practice Manager and has two grownup children. Richard has obtained the Diploma in General Dental Practice (1993).

He gained the Diploma in Postgraduate Dental Studies (1994) and in 2004 gained the License in Dental Homeopathy

Mr. Ben Davies

B.D.S. (London) 1967, LDS RCS (Eng), MGDS RCS (Edin)

Ben qualified from Royal London Hospital, and in 1968-71 worked in orthodontic practice in Bristol and general dental practice in Midsomer Norton. He was commissioned into the Army in 1971 and has subsequently practiced dentistry with the Defence Dental Agency in many different parts of the world, including Chief Dental Officer for the Sultan of Brunei's Armed Forces 1992-95.

 

Ben achieved his Membership in General Dental Practice in 1988 and is a Member of the British Society of General Dental Surgeons, and the Faculty of General Dental Practitioners (RCS England). He has a particular interest in crown and bridge work. He is married with four grownup children.

Mr. John Lover

B.D.S. (Bristol) 1970, MSc (London)

John graduated from Bristol in 1970 and promptly joined the army. During 27 years of military service he travelled extensively including spending two years at William Beaumont Army Medical Centre in Texas, where he first developed an interest in Endodontics. He later studied at the Eastman Dental Institute in London, gaining the degree of Master of Science in Conservative Dentistry. He completed a research project on Ultrasonic Endodontic Instruments.

John moved to Wells in 1996 and was admitted to the specialist Register in Endodontics in 2000 whilst also holding a part time post with the Ministry of Defence until May 2007.

He is also a part time clinical teacher at Bristol University Dental School.

Mrs. Christine Prince

B.D.S. (Bristol) 1985 D.P.D.S. (Bristol)

Christine qualified in 1985 from Bristol Dental School and has worked in the Bristol area ever since. She gained her Diploma in Postgraduate Dental Studies in 1998 focusing on orthodontics, periodontal disease and childrens dentistry. She is particularly interested in preventative dentistry and working with nervous patients and children.

 

The Hygienists

Mrs. Jane Ellis

Dental Therapist (London) 1973

Jane qualified as a Dental Therapist in London in 1973 at New Cross Hospital (Guys) also qualifying as a health education officer. Then returned to Bristol to qualify as a Dental Hygienist (Univiersity of Bristol) in 1978.

Mrs. Sara Kendall

Sara qualified as a Dental Hygienist in 1987 from Bristol Dental Hospital, University of Bristol.

The Nurses

Miss. Helen Makin

In July 1998 Helen joined our team. She trained as a dental nurse, obtaining her qualification in 2002. Subsequently she has obtained qualifications in dental radiography and oral health education.

Miss. Rachel Hall

Rachel joined our nursing team in 2004. She obtained her NVQ level 3 qualification in 2008. Rachel intends to complete the Dental Radiography and Oral hygiene qualifications in the near future.

 

Miss. Chloe Harrington

Chloe has worked part-time at our practice since 2004, whilst taking her A-level exams. She has now gained her place at Bristol Dental School to study Dentistry in September 2008. Chloe hopes to return to work at the practice during university holidays.

Ms. Julia Melly

Julia is the most recent addition to our team. She moved here from her previous practice in Essex with her two sons. Julia obtained her National Certificate for Dental Nursing in 1988. She hopes to complete the Dental Radiography qualification in the near future.
 

Managers

Mrs. Sue Leworthy

Dental Business Manager

Sue began her career in nursing and midwifery. After having a family she began to work at the practice, (with her husband Richard), covering leave and overseeing the transfer to computerisation. Over the years Sue has spent more time at the practice and has worked towards gaining the diploma in Dental Practice Management in 1999. Sue is also a registered Dental Nurse with the General Dental Council.

Mrs. Carol Govier

Office Manager

Carol has worked here at Rock House since 1994. Carol qualified as a dental nurse, obtaining her NVQ Level 3 in 2003. Subsequent to this Carol has achieved various qualifications in reception and administration management.
